THE STORY SO FAR

Originally incorporated in 1965 as Hilton Hotels Development (Malaysia) Limited, the Company’s initial focus was placed in the area of hospitality, with hotels and restaurants as its key areas.

Within a year, it had evolved to become Far Eastern Hotels Development (Malaysia) Sendirian Berhad. After gaining public status in 1968, it became known as Far Eastern Hotels Development (Malaysia) Berhad.

The Company progressed further in 1979 as Pernas International Hotels & Properties Berhad (PIHP), in reflection of the Government Investment Arm of Perbadanan Nasional Berhad’s (Pernas) equity and management in Far Eastern Hotels Development (Malaysia) Berhad.

This move was in accordance with the Government’s mandate for Perbadanan Nasional Berhad to take on the two-fold objective of the New Economic Policy that was introduced in 1970 – to eradicate poverty and to correct the economic imbalance amongst races.

Perbadanan Nasional Berhad’s participation in PIHP successfully increased Bumiputra involvement in the area of hotels and properties.

PIHP was listed on the main board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (now known as Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad) in 1990.

In 1996, shareholders of PIHP approved the participation of the management team in the privatization of certain major assets of Perbadanan Nasional Berhad, which included plantations, manufacturing, hotels and properties, and other service-related activities into PIHP.

Following the Company’s expansion beyond hotel and property operations, it transformed and became known as Pernas International Holdings Berhad (PIHB) – the new Pernas.

In July 2004, the Pernas name was rebranded to Tradewinds Corporation Berhad, in an effort to better represent the Company’s status as the holding company of Tradewinds (M) Berhad - its major investment and subsidiary - and also to reflect that the major portion of Tradewinds Corporation Berhad's shares were now held by the private sector.

The name Tradewinds Corporation Berhad emerged as one of the largest diversified hotel, property and plantation Groups listed in Bursa Malaysia.

2007 marked a significant year in Tradewinds Corporation’s history, as its shareholders approved the proposal to sell its entire stake in plantation and sugar-refining arm - Tradewinds (M) Berhad.

In September 2013, the Company reintroduced itself as a Privatized establishment with revitalized ambitions, streamlining its core businesses towards property development and investments, and hotels, to become the brand that it is today.
